ARCHITECTURE + SCENOGRAPHY
In the centre of Brussels stands a 17th-century building, the narrowest in the district, a stylist acquires it to fulfill her dreams: a shop on the ground floor; workshop and office on the first floor; a duplex apartment with a belvedere above the roof.
The architectural intervention provides a meticulous surgery that emphasizes the elements of this period, such as the wooden framework, the facade with an oculus in the apartment, and the spiral staircase. The bare walls and floors revealed other "found objects" of the time, evoking a past linked to the adjacent building and the neighborhood.
This heritage is dotted around a skylight in the centre of the building. The glazed floor and roof of the workshop brings natural light into the shop. In the private housing, the living room keeps a harmonic relation with the shopping street. Higher up, above the roof, a belvedere with a small kitchen welcomes and offer guests a panoramic view of the rooftops of Brussels.
